New class! Directing for the Stage with Austin Pendleton

This Spring, OBIE Award-winning director Austin Pendleton launches his first Directing class at HB Studio. “Directing for the Stage” is intended for both established and aspiring directors, and will be tailored to each individual participant’s skills and level of expertise. The course will focus primarily on a director’s role as leading interpreter of an existing text and architect of a production. Emphasis will be placed on working with actors on the script, breaking down the scenes into act-able actions and beats, the practical aspects of collaborating with designers, casting choices, and alternate ways of approaching a text that differ from the classic first read-through around-the-table style…read more

Natalie Bates’ play THESE THINGS HAPPEN, featuring Karen Ludwig, Georgina Bates, Jody Prusan, Paul Weisman, Jim Armstrong and Penelope Tarr, will be performed at Workshop Theater, March 5.

Kanji Furutachi is featured in an interview in The Japan Times about his experience as an actor in Japan’s film industry.

Kim Paris appears in LAST CALL, a dramatic short film she co-produced with writer and director Larry Rosen. LAST CALL has earned a nomination for “Best Short” at Brightside Tavern Film Festival. Screening Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Brightside Tavern in Jersey City.

A screenplay reading of VALLEY OF THE DOLLS featuring Austin Pendleton and Cathie Boruch, Waltrudis Buck, Jen Danby, Daniel Delano, Nick DeSimone, Mark Gorham, Victoria Hale, Albert Insinnia, Debra Khan-Bey, Gail Merzer-Behrens, Byron O’Hanlon, Lisa Raymond, Andrew Weisell, and Conor Weiss will be performed Friday March 10th @7:30 at Shetler Studios.

Aaron Minerbrook, HB’s Technical Director, has been named a 2017 Target Margin Theater Institute Fellow.

Paolina Weber and Annette Benda Fox appear in NORTHBOUND, about two young slaves in 1859 and their desire for life, love and the pursuit of happiness amidst the growing anti-slavery movements. At Theatre for a New City, February 9 – 27.

Almog Pail appears in ME, MYSELF AND RITA at 54 BELOW, April 20. A one woman show written and performed by Almog Pail about Hollywood glamour girl Rita Hayworth’s life and her struggle with early onset Alzheimer’s disease.

Ginger Grace appears in the film FRAT STAR, currently playing online. Written & directed by Grant Johnson, she plays the character “Ginger.” She also appears as Emily Dickinson in her interactive performance piece INSIDE EMILY DICKINSON:  HER POETRY & HER LIFE at libraries in the New York area for Women’s History Month.  March 4 – 17.

John Leguizamo’s one-man show LATIN HISTORY FOR MORONS premieres at The Public Theater. Feb 24 – April 23.

Ellis Vizcarra appears in DARK PLACES on the Investigation Discover Channel as Richard Ramirez, the Night Stalker. To air March, 2017. He also appears in the short film DIFFERENT COLORS, to hit film festivals later in 2017.

Matthew Widman’s HOMELAND SECURITY has been chosen to be part of the Madlab Theatre Company’s 18th Annual Theatre Roulette festival in Columbus, Ohio. Directed by Stephen Woosley, May 11, 19 and 27 at 8pm.

Julia Lederer‘s play WITH LOVE AND A MAJOR ORGAN has been published by Scirocco Drama (J. G. Shillingford Publishing).
