2016 First Floor Studio Residency: Request for Proposals

HB STUDIO ARTISTIC COUNCIL
2016 PROPOSAL GUIDELINES AND CALL FOR PROPOSALS
HB STUDIO FIRST FLOOR STUDIO PERFORMANCE RESIDENCIES

Deadline for Proposals: Monday, November 23, 2015
Selected Projects will be announced by: December 31, 2015

HB Studio is dedicated to training and practice for the theatre. The Studio will, at intervals throughout the year, make workshop performance space available in our First Floor Studio, for the development of creative projects that further the training and artistic practices fostered at HB. The Studio is not a producing organization, nor should these presentations be construed as “showcases.” Rather, we offer an opportunity for practicing theatre artists to collaborate on experimental projects, to be shared among peers and colleagues, for constructive critical feedback and mutual growth.

Eligible Projects may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Workshop productions of new plays
• New play readings
• New/exploratory staging of existing works
• Devised or improvised work
• Musical theatre works and theatre works incorporating music
• Movement-based theatre work

While we can offer access to rehearsal and performance space, HB is unable to offer financial support for these performance projects. Thus the ideal projects for this opportunity will be those that cultivate a “no budget” aesthetic – self-produced, bare bones, using invention to create the scene, with hand-made, gathered, or borrowed equipment. Limited temporary storage can be made available during the 4 weekends of production offered in our First Floor Studio space.

Six performance slots will be made available during 2016. Each project selected will be given 4 weekends (Saturday and Sunday evenings) to work after HB’s regular class hours (from 4pm) in the First Floor Studio Space. These dates may be used for rehearsal, presentation, or for both. The projects selected will also be given access to free rehearsal space elsewhere in the Studio (up to 9 hours weekly for up to 8 weeks) as it becomes available on the weekly schedule.

Projects may be performed for an invited audience of friends, peers, HB students and faculty, and will be announced via the Studio’s weekly notice and Facebook postings. Residency guests are encouraged to gather and share feedback on their work-in-progress, and are asked to provide an evaluation of their experience at the end of the project period.
