Online Teaching Statement from instructor Jackson Moran:
“A remotely-connected acting class is a wonderful opportunity to examine and deepen your own personal approach to acting. During our virtual sessions, I will lead the group in a physical and vocal warm up that fosters a sense of creativity, play, and mind-body connection. I will offer a series of exercises that you are able to perform wherever you are able to connect to the class. An added advantage of the digital format is that once the class is over, these will all be activities you can practice on your own and adapt for your own creative pursuits. We will work to connect more strongly to our impulses, raise our level of physical awareness, deepen our listening abilities, and unleash our own unique sense of play and joy for theater. In addition to this physical and imaginative work, we will spend time practicing script analysis and discuss best practices for approaching a new role during rehearsal. I will also make suggestions for how to bring this new sense of freedom into auditions. And of course, although we will be connecting digitally for a time, you will expand your network and be a part of a community of like-minded artists that are passionate about theater. By the end of this course, you will have developed: a personal warmup that expands your voice and frees your body; an audition-ready monologue; a methodology for approaching script analysis; and a series of exercises that you can utilize for future auditions, scenes, and professional work.”
