HB Studio is New York City’s premiere artistic center for actors, playwrights and directors at every level of achievement. For more than 80 years, we have provided a powerful haven for theater makers, free from commercial pressures and open to beginners and professionals alike. We have historically been and continue to be committed to promoting accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion into all the aspects of our organization in service of a more generally equitable society.

Created by artists for artists, we believe that an ongoing process of training is essential to the performing arts. We strive to uphold the standard of excellence and clarity that our founders set into practice back in 1945. HB provides challenging and thoughtful instruction toward the development of the artists who contribute to the modern theater. True theater expresses the social, moral and political realities of the world in which we live. We offer a highly structured, well-rounded, intentionally diverse and inclusive curriculum of study for students of all levels.
