“GET MINES” by Frank Delessio
A staged reading in HB Studio’s TRANSGRESSIONS Reading Series.

Schedule: Rehearsals May 1 & 2 with the performance on May 2, 2018.

A pregnant African-American woman is at odds with an envious client. With her livelihood threatened, and her character questioned, she can only hope that those around her see through the lie.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

Kayla (29): African-American. Kayla is very sweet. Someone you can rely on. She’s six months pregnant. She’s a receptionist at a veterinarian clinic.

Niesha (24): African-American. Niesha is very feisty. She’s carefree and careless. She’s been in some trouble before. She is also a receptionist at a veterinarian clinic.

An HB Rehearsal Space Residency Project

Applications are now being accepted for those seeking financial aid for the Summer Term. Financial aid is awarded on both merit and need. HB Studio offers two forms of financial aid:

• Scholarships, which support partial enrollment in one studio class
• Work study, which offers one free class in exchange for working at the studio weekly.

An HB Studio & LES Shakespeare Co-Production

 LES Shakespeare and HB Studio are producing a new work this season based on Izat Erfani’s life in Langarud, Iran set in 1940’s. The focus of the work is a young woman trying to give her children more and intertwine that with the interviews from others currently in the Middle East and those that have moved to the USA.

This piece received a HB Residency last year and is now part of their 2018 Season.

Director Melody Erfani is looking for an ensemble that is creative and open to playing.

This piece will be performed by only females and will have women playing men. The ages listed are the character’s age but the actress’ age is flexible.

HB notes with sadness the passing of Earle Hyman, formerly of HB’s faculty and a longtime HB friend. In addition to his regular acting classes at HB, Earle taught classes in Shakespeare and Ibsen.

Among his many Broadway credits, in 1957 he starred as Vladimir in Herbert Berghof’s all black production of Waiting for Godot opposite Mantan Moreland as Estragon. Earle’s career broke many boundaries. He was a brilliant actor, wonderful teacher and an extraordinary soul.
