We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved director and teacher Jack Hofsiss has passed away.
Brilliant director, teacher, a creative force, a true man of the theater, we are truly lucky to have had Jack with us at HB. We will miss him sorely. We remember him with gratitude.
Our hearts go out to his friends and family.
An LA Times article on him back in 1988 wrote: “I like smart and brave actors,” said director Jack Hofsiss, seated outside USC’s Stop Gap Theatre, where he is preparing the world premiere of David Stevens’ “The Sum of Us” (opening tonight). “But ultimately–when it’s time to perform–actors have to leave their smartness at the stage door, and carry their bravery on stage.”
The viewing is 4:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday (Sept 16th) at Ortiz Funeral Home, 235 West 72nd st.
The service is 9:15am Saturday morning (Sept 17th) at St. Paul the Apostle, at Columbus and 60th.
