INSIDE OUT: an Acting Out production hosted by HB Studio
Written by incarcerated men and performed by formerly incarcerated actors. Conceived and directed by Richard Hoehler. Assisted by Francesca Ferrara.
With support from the Noël Coward Foundation
INSIDE OUT is comprised of eleven compelling scenes interlaced with letters to home and spoken word poetry. Highlights are RANDOM THOUGHTS, an age-old conscience crisis played out in a prison yard, THE LETTER, a bitter “Dear John” jail note, LA SOMBRA, a bilingual phantasma, THE G BUILDING, a hilarious imagining of a prison mental ward, THE BOX, a searing indictment of solitary confinement, and THE DILEMMA, a moving portrayal of an inmate appearing at his first parole hearing. The evening avoids clichéd and exploitive television tropes and gives its audience a candid and uncensored look at life on the inside from men who have been there. At times moving, at times absurd, INSIDE OUT entertains, educates and enlightens.

Acting Out is a professional acting class designed for the formerly incarcerated who experienced the transformative value of a theatre program while in prison and wish to continue their training upon release – where they may continue to access traits long ignored, mine raw talent, harness misdirected energy, and build self-esteem through exposure to the rigors and rewards of a master arts environment, and in so doing, help reintegrate into their communities.
