HB Studio Seeks Actors

HB’s Director’s New Play Lab, taught by director Pat Golden and Playwriting II-Studio Practice, taught by playwright Julie McKee seek actors for scenes from new plays to be performed as Staged Readings.

Performances: Saturday, November 9 and Sunday, November 10, 2019
HB Playwrights Theatre, 7:00 PM

  • Tech: November 6th or 7th
  • Dress/Tech: November 8th
  • Final Dress: November 9th

Directors will schedule regular rehearsals at the actor’s convenience including Class Presentations on select Mondays between 2:30P-5:30P

Woman 20’s Caucasuian. She is confident and full of life. Intense and creative, free spirited. Speaks with an Irish accent

Woman 20’s  Any Ethnicity. New to the city, taken aback by her new neighborhood. Caring, close to her family.

Man 35’s-50’s Caucasuian. A Catholic priest. Speaks with a strong Polish accent. Uncomfortable speaking English. Is not a warm person.

Man 40’s -50’s Any Ethnicity. Kathleen’s neighbor. Heavy Drinker. No lines at this point, a lot of physical comedy. Comfortable with comedy.

Man 30s to 50s: Latinx; professional truck driver, divorced with three kids. Can dance. Dancers welcome.

Woman 30’s. Latinx. Mambo Dance Instructor. Loves to Mambo. Dancers welcome.

Woman Teen to early 20’s:  Any ethnicity, pretty, teenage daughter, non-speaking role.

MEN

Men 20’s

Any ethnicity; Small-town, welder. Grounded, earthy, with personal magnetism. Loves his guns.

Early to mid-20’s: Any ethnicity; Very good-looking high school drama teacher in a lot of trouble. In desperate situation.

18-25 Any ethnicity; College student, Republican club member, sarcastic outcast. Wants to fit into a world that isn’t necessarily his own.

Men 40’s – 60’s

Any ethnicity; Very successful partner in old-fashioned, stodgy law firm. Family man with teenager daughter.

Any ethnicity; Academic, highly-skilled public speaker, normally deliberate and stoic. Intimidating.

Specific Men

20’s; African-American, professional football player. A team player, but he’s out-spoken when pushed.

30-50; Latinx; professional truck driver, divorced with three kids. Can dance. Dancers welcome.

40s-50’s; Any Ethnicity. Kathleen’s neighbor. Heavy Drinker. No lines at this point, lots of physical comedy.

35-50; Caucasian. A Catholic priest. Speaks with a strong Polish accent. English is hard for him. He is not a warm person.

50-60; Caucasian. An executive with a big presence; Alpha-male who doesn’t like to be questioned

50-60; Caucasian. A morally conflicted executive with a nice-guy persona

18-25; Caucasian; College student, Republican club president, neurotic, ambitious, driven, intends to use academics as the launching pad for his future.

18-25; Caucasian; College student, Republican club member; Freshmen, insecure follower, but true believer in the cause. Passionate. Wants to change the world.

Early 30’s: African-American, principled with soft spot for family. Stressed due to his failing restaurant business. He is the younger brother.

Late 30s: African-American, irresponsible, the family’s black sheep, a gambler. He is the older brother.

WOMEN

Woman 15-20’s

Teen to early 20’s:  Any ethnicity, pretty, teenage daughter, non-speaking role.

Women 20’s

Any ethnicity; Big city woman in a small town, fluid, adventurous with a stable life.

Any Ethnicity, New to the city, taken aback by her new neighborhood. Caring, close to her family.

Woman 30’s

Any ethnicity. Licensed Clinical Social Worker with five years of experience. Smart and caring. She wants to help, but is a stickler for the rules.

Women 40’s

Late 30s to 40s: Any ethnicity;  Patient at state psychiatric hospital. Aggressive, with a serious attitude, but very sensitive and vulnerable. Frustrated because she cannot win her freedom.

Specific Women

30’s. Latin. Mambo Dance Instructor. Loves to dance the Mambo. Dancers welcome.

20’s: Caucasian.  She speaks with an Irish accent, is confident and full of life. Intense and creative, free spirited.
