The Hagen Summer Intensive – A Few Spots Left! Apply Today.

The Hagen Summer Intensive is a rigorous, 6-week workshop that probes the practical applications of Uta Hagen’s technique as discussed in her book A CHALLENGE FOR THE ACTOR. Through acting technique, scene study, script analysis and technical exercises, “The Six Steps” will become an integral part of the actor’s craft. When you have strong technique and more confidence in how to find yourself in the role, acting will be joyful. Spots are going fast, so apply today!

Apply for a Scholarship for Summer Term!

Applications are now being accepted for Summer Term scholarships.
Application deadline: April 25

Scholarships generally support partial enrollment in one studio class, and are awarded on consideration of both merit and need. Summer Term will run 10 weeks, June 13 – August 21. Summer registration opens May 2.

HB Studio Faculty and Alumni featured in the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival!

SAPWStarring Austin Pendleton has been accepted in the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival! The documentary film by HB Alumnus, David Holmes, features our very own faculty member Austin Pendleton. Footage was shot in Austin‘s classes at HB Studio over a period of a few years.

Starring Austin Pendleton, directed by Gene Gallerano and David H. Holmes. (USA) – World Premiere. The most famous actor you’ve never heard of; Austin Pendleton reflects on his life and craft while his A-list peers discuss his vast influence and what it means to be an original in a celebrity-obsessed world. Includes interviews with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman, Olympia Dukakis, and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

Also part of the Tribeca Film Festival short films lineup is the short film The Mulberry Bush, directed and written by Neil Labute which features our very own HB Alumnus Victor Slezak.

The Mulberry Bush, directed and written by Neil LaBute. (USA) – World Premiere. Two men sit next to each other on an autumn day in Central Park. They make small talk about the weather and the joys of summer. When the conversation turns personal, however, it becomes clear that this is no random encounter, and they are headed toward a startling confrontation.

HB Studio Selected for Thomas Barbour Playwright’s Award Readings

March 11, 18, 25 at 7PM The Episcopal Actors’ Guild and HB Studio to Stage 2016 Thomas Barbour Playwrights’ Award Readings.

Courtney: 15-17, working as a cashier in a diner; drably dressed, dry-witted loner proud to be a liberal and rebel, with a toughness that covers her fragility. Inquisitive. Awkward. Searching for connection.

Performances will take place in the HB Playwrights Theatre, April 8 – 17
