A tax audit reveals a lot more than flawed accounting when the auditor is a returning female vet and her subject is a frequently high and highly disorganized aging hippie songwriter.

ABOUT THE PROJECTS
An artist’s adaptation of T.S. Eliot’s The Waste Land with handcrafted language, visuals, sound and movement; a collaboratively written series exploring characters in transient spaces; a monologic investigation of sadism and girlhood; a story of an inter-racial couple in 1975 Hawaii and their 25 year old secret; and a devised piece based on interviews conducted in the Middle East about a young woman in 1940s Iran…

Join us to learn about these projects, selected for a 2017 HB Residency, and the artists that make them.

ABOUT THE HB FIRST FLOOR STUDIO RESIDENCY
At intervals throughout the year, HB Studio makes workshop performance space available in our First Floor Studio, for the development of creative projects that further the training and artistic practices fostered at HB. We offer an opportunity for practicing theater artists to collaborate on experimental projects, to be shared among peers and colleagues, for constructive critical feedback and mutual growth.

First Floor Studio Residency – PASSING THRU

A First Floor Studio Residency Project

By Enraged Scribbler’s Society

7:30pm | Saturdays & Sundays: May 6/7*, 13/14, 20/21*, 27/28
FREE | RSVP
*open rehearsals

“Passing Thru” is the exploration of characters that the writers of the Enraged Scribbler’s Society have been exploring for some time. The characters in “Passing Thru” are placed in two different settings throughout the four weekends. The settings are public spaces that are not necessarily the final destination for any of the characters, but places they need to go through to get to their destination. It is an exploration of these characters and their conflicts, and of the idea of “privacy in public places.” People come in and out of these settings and different characters from different stories will be sharing the same space, such as on a train platform or hotel lobby. The project also explores the idea of creating a series. The situations for all these characters will change and evolve over the four weekends. Audience members are invited to return to see what will happen to these characters the following weekend, or simply watch a single performance.

People Who Make Theater: Vincent Pastore

PEOPLE WHO MAKE THEATER:
a conversation with actor
Vincent Pastore (THE SOPRANOS)

Moderated by David Deblinger

Wednesday, March 8 | 7:30pm
HB Playwrights Theatre, 124 Bank Street
$5-$10 suggested donation | RSVP at hbstudio.eventbrite.com

Vincent Pastore‘s breakout role in the HBO award winning series THE SOPRANOS lead him from his early days of performing in community theater, running discos and owning rock and roll bars in New Rochelle, NY to becoming the household name of “Big Pussy.” He was encouraged to pursue film acting by Kevin and Matt Dillon who frequented his bars in the 80’s.

Vincent landed his first major film with Nancy Savoca’s award winning film TRUE LOVE, and then he was on his way. He worked on AMERICA’S MOST WANTED, LAW AND ORDER, ONE LIFE TO LIVE, GOOD FELLAS, AWAKENINGS and REGARDING HENRY, plus many other projects on the small stage in New York City, until he landed his first major role as Tony Scarboni opposite Alan Arkin in THE JERKY BOYS. After that, GOTTI, WITNESS TO THE MOB, and then THE SOPRANOS followed. He went on to do the films MADE, SERVING SARA, THE HURRICANE and TWO FAMILY HOUSE, to name just a few.

Recently Vincent has appeared in CHICAGO and in the Woody Allen play BULLETS OVER BROADWAY, making him now part of the Broadway community. He is the author of CRAZY HORSE, a play about his life experiences in the bar business, which is currently under the direction of his Soprano co-star Maureen Van Zandt.
