Moderated by Emma Osore, Arts & Business Council of New York Program Coordinator

Join us for a moderated talk on empowering artists to do business, with modern day renaissance man Mathew Heggem, known as “the dancing CEO.” Mathew joins Emma Osore in a conversation about the intersection of arts and business, and how artists may more effectively network with those in the business sector.

Mathew Heggem is Co-Founder and CEO of SUM Innovation, a NYC-based accounting consulting firm that helps fast-growth businesses and global entrepreneurs transform their businesses through the power of numbers. Mathew was an active member of NYC’s Conscious Capitalism chapter and serves as the Board President for the Greenwich Village Chelsea Chamber of Commerce. In true renaissance fashion, Mathew is also a nationally recognized, award-winning dance artist and co-founder for an NYC-based dance company, Left Side Labs, where he choreographs and performs in collaboration with Emma Batman.

Emma Osore is Program Coordinator for the Arts & Business Council of New York, working towards more creative partnerships between the arts and business communities in New York that both enhance the business skills of the arts sector and promote creative engagement within the business sector.

This program is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.

In Memoriam: Jack Hofsiss

From DESIGN FOR LIVING, directed by Jack Hofsiss at HB Studio, May 2015.
From DESIGN FOR LIVING, directed by Jack Hofsiss at HB Studio, May 2015.

We are deeply saddened to share the news that beloved director and teacher Jack Hofsiss has passed away.

Brilliant director, teacher, a creative force, a true man of the theater, we are truly lucky to have had Jack with us at HB. We will miss him sorely. We remember him with gratitude.

Our hearts go out to his friends and family.

An LA Times article on him back in 1988 wrote:
“I like smart and brave actors,” said director Jack Hofsiss, seated outside USC’s Stop Gap Theatre, where he is preparing the world premiere of David Stevens’ “The Sum of Us” (opening tonight). “But ultimately–when it’s time to perform–actors have to leave their smartness at the stage door, and carry their bravery on stage.”

The viewing is 4:00pm to 9:00pm on Friday (Sept 16th) at Ortiz Funeral Home, 235 West 72nd st.
The service is 9:15am Saturday morning (Sept 17th)  at St. Paul the Apostle, at Columbus and 60th.

Read his obit in the NY Times here.
