Audition Technique for Stage & Screen

Presented by Director/Casting Director Pat Golden

To be held online via Zoom:

Our new state of existence provides us with an opportunity to refine online audition techniques. Learn what Directors, Casting Directors and Producers are looking for in your theater, film or TV audition. Director/Casting Director Pat Golden will help you prepare for your next audition. She shares what Industry Professionals want to see.

This is a practical workshop which prepares the actor—both artistically and technically—to audition with confidence.

You will be ready to:

  • Attend Live Zoom Auditions
  • Submit your pre-recorded General Audition Monologue
  • Self-tape
  • Audition with a Reader, both virtually and in-person
  • Audition with Cold-Copy
  • Attend In-person Auditions

Through direct, practical in-class experience, actors will learn how to select material appropriate for their natural temperament and how to create a virtual presentation that generates real-life interest when in-person contact resumes.

In class —through practical experience—we’ll learn to create:

  • Effective, inexpensive Lighting
  • Complementary Backgrounds
  • Strategic Camera placement
  • Microphone placement for clear audio

Participants in this Workshop will come away with the ability to create polished auditions—for both stage and screen—whether Self-tapes or live on Zoom.

In this 5-Week Audition Workshop, we will also cover:

  • Selecting material
  • How to prepare — particularly for Breakdown Services and Actors Access platforms
  • How to present yourself in an audition — whether virtual or in person
  • Reading virtually with another actor
  • Cold Readings
  • Resume review
  • Auditions for Stage and Screen and the differences between the two mediums

For the first day: Come prepared to deliver one monologue—dramatic or comedic—appropriate for you as a Stage actor. Please also come with one 2-person scene, appropriate for the Screen. Monologues and or Scenes are to be no longer that 2-3 minutes in length. Please be prepared to email copies of each scene to the Key student. We will work on your scenes in class. Commercial cold-copy will be provided.

What participants are saying:

“I cannot overstress the value of this workshop in the real world (Or should I say REEL world?) Pat Golden is extremely knowledgeable in her field and, in a short time and by doing a great amount of work, I am able to produce materials necessary for a good audition, theatrical and screen, in this most changed world we live in.” – Susan Brickell, Actor
