Singing Sondheim

All classes and workshops at HB Studio will be held online via Zoom Conferencing until we are able to resume at the Studio.

Broadway Director Lonny Price leads this masterclass for experienced singers who act and actors who sing: an exploration of the music of Stephen Sondheim.

You will prepare songs for critique in class from Stephen Sondheim’s canon, which includes musical theater greats such as SWEENEY TODD, WEST SIDE STORY, A FUNNY THING HAPPENED ON THE WAY TO THE FORUM, COMPANY, FOLLIES, GYPSY, A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC, and many, many more. The focus will be the challenge of acting these songs, bringing the music to active dramatic life.

Students can expect to present work at least four times over the course of the five sessions for 15-20 minutes. Accompanist provided.

For the first day of class: Prepare a Sondheim song of your choice. Please bring the sheet music.

Lonny Price is an Emmy Award-winning Broadway director.
