The Actor's Body: Self-Care in the time of Covid

Presented by: Ilse Pfeifer

To be held online over Zoom:

Ilse Pfeifer (master teacher, dancer, choreographer, bodyworker and vocal coach) offers this workshop for actors on self care and maintenance for the actor’s body during the COVID-19 pandemic. Held online, Ilse will offer a virtual space for the practice of self-care, incorporating body work, mindful movement, meditation, story-telling and play. During this time when so much performance work is on pause, you will learn and practice exercises to tune and maintain your actor’s instrument so that you may be limber and ready to return when the time comes. Ilse will lead the group into a place of discovery, guiding you with tenderness through exercises to address and honor the feelings and experiences brought into the room each day. Aware of the extended stress many are experiencing throughout this pandemic, this will be an opportunity to restore your body and self awareness within a collective group practice. This will also be an opportunity to share stories and experiences within the safe space and confidence of the group, and to hold a circle of compassion for and with each other. Ilse brings together her years of mastery in body work, movement work, vocal work, breath work and healing practices for the performing artist to guide you in this experience intended as a unique and holistic opportunity to find nourishment through self-care, art and expression, in order to sustain and replenish you during these most challenging times.

HB Studio will support a select number of full scholarships for participants who have been working “on the frontlines” and in “essential industries” during this pandemic, including but not limited to those working in health care, emergency, food, transportation, and other community-based services.
