Playwright Julie McKee teaches Playwriting Classes NYC

Julie McKee received her M.F.A. from the Yale School of Drama Playwriting Program. Studied with Uta Hagen and Carol Rosenfeld. Julie received a commission by the Ensemble Studio Theatre and the Afred P. Sloan Foundation of Science and Technology Project to write THE SECRET LIFE OF SEAWEED which received the HB Studio Rehearsal Space Residency 2018, and a staged reading directed by Jean Randich. WILL SACRIFICE was developed at the Southampton Writers Conference. THE ADVENTURES OF AMY BOCK; DIG ‘N ARCH; RON’S GARDEN; GET IT WHILE YOU CAN; A BACKWARD GLANCE; INVITATION TO A FUNERAL; PINK AND WILD; THE ‘FAR-FLUNG’; HAERE MAI KI AOTEAROA and A FAREWELL TO MUM, produced by: Yale Repertory Theatre; The Ensemble Studio Theatre Marathon; The Women’s Project; Synchronicity Space; Yale Summer Cabaret; regionally, in Berlin and in New Zealand. HBPF productions: THE SLEEPER AWAKENS (dir. by Carol Rosenfeld); PLAY BY EAR; FREE ASCENT, and many plays in the annual SHORT PLAY FESTIVAL. Plays are published by Smith & Kraus and Playscripts Inc., (Great Short Plays Vols. 3 and 5 and Actors Choice: Monologues for Women). Fellowships/Grants: New York Foundation for the Arts; MacDowell Colony; Sundance Playwrights Lab; Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and Malta International Residency; Emory University; YSD Truman Capote Fellowship; and YSD Eugene O’Neill Scholarship. Teaching: Ohio University; New York Film Academy; Ensemble Studio Theatre Institute; EST Summer Conference–Sarah Lawrence Week; Actors Centre (Sydney, Australia); the Greylock Project at Williamstown Theatre Festival; 52nd Street Project, and master classes for interns at Yale Summer Cabaret. Prior Artistic Director: Dwight/Edgewood Project at Yale. Commissions: FRINGE BENEFITS by the EST/Alfred P. Sloan Foundation of Science and Technology Project. Honors: recipient of the Ensemble Studio Theatre’s Silver Medal Award for Contributions of Theatrical Excellence to the EST Marathon of One-Act Plays and the American Theatre. Previous memberships include: The Women’s Project; BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Librettists Workshop, and the HB Playwrights Foundation Playwrights Unit. Current memberships include The Ensemble Studio Theatre, and the Dramatists Guild of America.
