COVID-19 Update for International Students

HB Studio will abide by the Federal COVID- 19 updated Guidance for the Fall 2020 semester from ICE and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, originally issued in March 2020. The March 2020 guidance applies to nonimmigrant students who were actively enrolled at a U.S. school on March 9, 2020, and are otherwise complying with the terms of their nonimmigrant status, whether from inside the United States or abroad. SEVP will not issue a temporary final rule impacting F and M students for the fall school term.

Following the COVID – 19: Update on Fall 2020 Guidance from ICE and the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, HB Studio will be using a hybrid study model in the Fall 2020 term, which allows new and initial students to take a full time program that combines online and in person classes.

Regular classes in the International Studio Class Program will continue to be offered online (voice, speech, movement, acting technique and scene study). The Performance lab and Independent study project lab will hold meetings in person, on-site and in outdoor spaces at HB and around the city.

Our returning students in active status have the option to take all classes online or to choose a hybrid program of study.  New and initial students must be enrolled in a hybrid program and are required to take at least one class in person.

New F-1 students must take part in either the Fall 2020 Performance Lab which will be partially conducted in outdoor and public spaces around the city, and/or  the Independent Study Project Lab which will have regular meetings in small groups onsite at 120 or 124 Bank Street, and/or may choose to co-enroll in a class on site at our university partner, LIU Brooklyn. Please email international@hbstudio.org for more information about the Independent Study Project Lab or co-enrollment at LIU.

New Students starting a Full Time program under an F-1 Visa in upcoming terms have the following options:

  1. New students can apply for  The Hagen Core Training to study onsite at HB starting in the Winter ’21 term ( January 4, 2021 to August 13, 2021)

  2. New students may travel to the U.S. to take part in a hybrid program of study as part of the International Studio Class Program. This would involve participation in regular classes conducted online and the option to take part in either a performance lab which would be partially conducted in outdoor and public spaces around the city, and/or an independent study project that would have biweekly or monthly lab meetings in small groups onsite at 120 or 124 Bank Street.
  3. New students may do a co-enrollment with LIU Brooklyn as part of HB’s International Studio Class Program, with HB holding their SEVIS record. They would take mostly online classes at HB, and could opt for a hybrid lab or independent study project, AND could apply to enroll in an on-site class at LIU’s Brooklyn campus, in their Communications department, for example. https://liu.edu/Brooklyn/Academics/Liberal-Arts-Sciences

The SEVP Program will continue to provide updates to the academic community through our communication channels, including Broadcast Messages, SEVP field representatives, Study in the States blog posts and social media and we will continue to refer to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Department of State and U.S. Customs and Border Protection for the latest COVID-19 information, specific port-of-entry screening processes, as well as any travel restrictions.

For more information about scheduling an appointment, requirements for a visa interview and travel restrictions contact the US Embassy or Consulate in your area.
