HB is exploring the canon of the American musical theater this year, with support from the Frederick Loewe Foundation.
Join us on October 19 for a conversation about Agnes de Mille and her emergence as a force in musical theater. Dance journalist and scholar Mindy Aloff will speak with Gemze de Lappe and Helen Gallagher about their experiences working with de Mille on her dances. We’ll explore what was happening in dance and what was happening in the world that created the impetus for, and excitement around, Agnes’ work. We want you to see how she changed the theater and what she added to its languages.
This program is made possible through the Frederick Loewe Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Legislature.
